Edwards puts MkIII. production at @58,000 rifles between 1917 and 1919. Other sources (Stratton) suggest the change over from MkIII to MkIII. came in 1916 between serial numbers 95180 and A8659. Year of Manufacture: This rifle is marked '1952'. The Mark III* was produced from 1915 on.
Caliber: .303 British.
Action Type: Bolt action rifle, removable magazine.
Markings: The top of the receiver is marked, 'A F / P R / E / 62461'. The barrel is marked '52'. Most of the markings are covered with erosion.
Barrel Length: 24'
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a sturdy, wing-protected front post, with a wing-protected, elevation adjustable rear sight, graduated to 2000 meters.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The forend upper handguard is missing from this rifle and the buttstock is non original. The stock shows heavy wear with compression marks, scratches, and a few cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4' from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttstock. The buttstock is unfinished, missing a buttplate, and missing the stock bolt. The stocks rate in about Fair overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is dull and the rifling is worn. There is erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 20% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows considerable wear and use. There are numerous little scuffs, etc., typical for a military weapon of this use and vintage. The metal surfaces are covered with surface erosion and rust. All wear and imperfections should be visible in the photographs. The Screw heads are used but serviceable. The markings are partially covered with erosion. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The firing pin return is weak when the trigger is pulled. We did not fire this rifle.
